Event Recap: Fashion for a Fraction

On a sunny Saturday in February, Washington City Paper hosted the first (and hopefully annual) Fashion for a Fraction Boutique sale at ideaspace at The Yards.

Thanks to one of the boutiques participating (THANK YOU CARNELIAN BOUTIQUE), I won VIP tickets which got me to the front of the line at 9am.  yay. (if you felt a tug of sarcasm in the yay you are correct, while I was super excited for the shopping, 9am on a Saturday to be somewhere is a little early for this night owl but I digress.)  Since my mom was meeting me there, I knew I could not drag to much or she would leave me in her shopping dust.  Sure enough I arrived to a brief hello before I was whisked off to see what she had found.

Mom

Notice while I grumble and groaned a bit about it, I was still there shortly after 9 am for some shopping.  I may have a problem and if I do… I got it from my momma.

As we made our way around, I spotted the Pyramid Atlantic contemporary arts center making dresses out of copies of City Paper.  The skirt I came back to find later I would totally wear!

It was very cool watching it come together.

We looked at some jewelry…

bags

And some bags… just a couple of our weaknesses.

After perusing with mom, we worked our way over to the crowd around Carnelian Boutique and Mercy Earring.

crowd

I was glad we came early (shocker!) because the more time that passed, the larger the crowd grew and the less inventory there was to shop so I get the sliding scale for the tickets, and VIP was only $15!!! You got champagne, cupcakes from Red Velvet, coffee from Chesapeake Bay Roasting company and could shop uninterrupted from 9am to 11am. So overall it was a great morning with good people like Keri Henderson (A Diva State of Mind)
