Rent the Runway has a store in Georgetown and I love it (more specifics on RTR at the end). For White House Correspondence Dinner Weekend I worked with Britney, who was awesome and Damian, who really knows how to dress a woman!!! Between the two of them, I left with three outfits that I not only felt great in but also were both me and different. What I mean is, they succeeded in finding me outfits that challenge me and pushed my style but didn’t make me feel like I was wearing someone else’s clothes. I am someone who know’s my style and can usually look at a rack and know what will fit me and what will look good. That said, I would still recommend working with a stylist! They can style you for one event or for multiple events and it is worth it. It is $25 for a 45-minute session for one event for $40 for a 90-minute session for multiple events (& 15% off when you rent for 2+ events). Totally worth because not only are they fashionable but they are well versed in what is available in the store. So here’s what we picked out!!
The first night was the Rock the Vote WHCD Pre-Party with Twitter and Fusion at Blind Whino. I knew it was going to be a fun young professional crowd and that I could have a bit more fun with my outfit (Plus Morgan Evans of Guest of a Guest and I compared notes when we met in the dressing room in store). So the first looks is credited to Damian who picked out this amazing jumpsuit for me from Cushnie et Ochs called the Liza Jumpsuit.
Morgan and I both rocked black jumpsuits from RTR for the night and it was definitely a hit! I also rediscovered my love of fashion tape which should get an award for best supporting role this weekend.
I went with an edgy kohl liner and simple gloss. The new color Doug (my amazing hairdresser) gave me worked well with a more rocker updo and of course some flash tattoos (which you can get at She’s Unique in Old Town #Obsessed)!!
The next night was the Creative Coalition dinner at STK Restaurant. It was another fun night but a bit more dressy so I rented a stunning Ballet Skirt from Faith Connexion (suggested by Damian) and a beautiful Corsica Scale Clutch from Inge Christopher (Picked by me). I styled it with a basic bandage corset over a studded corset bra and belted with a leather wrap belt.
And then of course I had to add some flash to complete the look!
For the final night, the actual day of WHCD it was time to go all out and get glam. Luigi Parasmo Salon generously played glam squad for the morning and did Jessica Hoy and I’s hair and make up to get us ready for the day. I was kinda obsessed with ballet skirt so I threw it on again to run to the salon!
Once we were all done up, we went home and got changed for the night. This look was picked by Britney and I LOVED it. This Lavender Brandy Gown from BCBGMAXAZRIA was the perfect mix of romantic but sexy. The perfect dress to hold my own with this beauty.
If you haven’t noticed, I’m a bit flash obsessed but this dress needed something simpler and lighter than the night before so I switched my flash for the night.
There’s another pic of this look below!
So I wrote this with the assumption that you know about rent the runway but for the few who don’t I’m sure you are asking, what is the deal? How can you get these amazing looks and dresses?!? If you asking this you must have been hiding under a rock, and I am here to bring you to the light!!! Rent the Runway is an incredible company that allows you to rent AMAZING designer dresses for a steal, a song or whatever you call an awesome deal!! (Bonus: I love that this company was started by women!) For about the same cost of ordering a formal gown from overseas on Ebay (actually probably cheaper because you’ll hate it, or it won’t fit or won’t arrive on time so you often end up spending more according to Prom moms in the dressing room), you can instead get an beautiful, high quality, designer gown that you can wear for that special occasion feeling good and with no worries (thanks to the automatic insurance). For those of us who live in DC, NY or Vegas, you have the added bonus being able to shop in person at one of their fabulous stores. Rent the Runway was kind enough to dress me for White House Correspondence Weekend so I went to their Georgetown store and I was like a kid in a candy store!
Here are a couple other successful recent rentals:
I really love that black jumpsuit, but my favorite is that black dress.
