Have You Met: Russ Green

So let’s start at the very beginning – Who Are You?

Russ Green, Founder and President of Bison Impact Group, is a writer, comedian, and philanthropist from Washington, DC. Of the many hats he wears, father of four is his favorite. Russ believes in living life out loud and being audacious.

What makes you dope?

I am a problem solver who believes in taking action. Issues do not go away on their own, it takes commitment and intention to resolve the problems we face.

Who was your first inspiration and how did you first learn about them?

Shigeru Miyamoto, Founder of Nintendo. I found it fascinating that he held entire worlds in his head and brought them to life. Cannot imagine a life without Super Mario.

What’s your happy place? Your favorite thing to do to bring yourself joy?
Being with loved ones on the golf course, or on the yoga mat completely out of my head and being present in my body.

Where do you get your energy and motivation?

Aldi. I love going early in the morning when they’re putting out the fresh produce. There’s no feeling like walking into a store and knowing you can purchase anything on the shelves. Hell, you can purchase a grocery cart for twenty-five cents!

What does balance mean to you and how do find it?

My oldest child has autism spectrum disorder, and that’s where I first learned life exists on a spectrum. Operating in extreme situations can be overwhelming, and I’ve learned we must simply do the best we can from moment to moment. But, in order to show up as our best selves we need to meet our unique needs. For me, that looks like a good night’s rest, morning yoga practice, quality time with loved ones, cooking a lovely meal, and being on the golf course or in green spaces when I can’t find a tee time.

What sacrifices did you have to make, or struggles did you face to get here?

Sheesh! I had to learn to let go of my expectations of others, and practice self-compassion when I experience failure. I am learning to accept that failure is an opportunity to begin again more intelligently.

What is the early advice you didn’t listen to that you wish you had? Or what advice would you give your earlier self?

Listen.

What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from it?

Ugh… I would say not showing up for a friend when they needed me most.

What was your proudest moment to date?

Any time I watch my children do something courageous. Something I tell them is, “You can’t be brave if you’re not scared.”
